You can find out how MLS and FOX Soccer Channel agreed on extending their contract by one year. “FOX Soccer has been a tremendous partner for MLS for many years and we are very happy that we have been able to extend the relationship,” said MLS President Mark Abbott. “Through both its news coverage and its extensive schedule of MLS games, Fox Soccer allows MLS fans across the country to follow their club as well as their rivals.”

FOX Soccer will broadcast around 31 games next season and all three exclusive playoff matches, including a Conference Final.

“We’re extremely pleased to be home to MLS – the gold standard for soccer in the US – for our ninth straight season,” said FOX Soccer Executive VP and GM David Nathanson. “FOX Soccer is committed to providing soccer fans in America the best coverage possible, and this extension helps us keep that commitment.”

MLS Might Expand

Major League Soccer might be expanding but it is more complex than we can imagine. New branches usually spend the first few years learning from past branches but not in MLS. Lately, MLS is opposite – the newer franchises are helping to keep the old ones positive.

Three of the four league leaders last year in home attendance were the teams that recently expanded: Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders and Philadelphia Union. The rumor is next year Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers will lead in attendance.

Donovan Says No

Landon Donovan looks certain to finish his career in Major League Soccer after announcing he will not go back to English Premier League side in the new year. David Moyes, Everton’s head coach, tried to make an agreement with Donovan and the LA Galaxy but Donovan claims he wants to rest instead. “While I enjoyed my time at Everton last season … I feel that it is important to continue to rest and recover this offseason as opposed to going on loan,” said Donovan. “I never considered being loaned to a club other than Everton, but I have been playing nearly non-stop for the past two years and I believe that this decision will allow me to perform at my best for the Galaxy and the national team throughout the upcoming year.”
