Last Saturday Stuart Holden had to be stretchered off after Manchester United defender Jonny Evans challenged him on the field. Holden was cut on his left knee and needed 26 stitches to close his wound. He will undergo further tests to see if there is any ligament damage and to see if he has to end his season early.

Evans was given a red card for the tackle as United got the 1-0 victory. Before Holden’s injury, he completed 28 passes and intercepted six balls. He also drew three fouls. The former Houston Dynamo man was dropped from next week’s US friendly matches.

Nani Returns to United

Nani suffered a gash in his leg in a high challenge from Jamie Carragher during the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool. Nani did not think he could play in next weeks game but he ended up healing quicker than expected and will return to training this week. Michael Owen was also in training along with Antonio Valencia, who made his comeback from a broken ankle during Saturday’s FA Cup victory over Arsenal.

Park Ji-Sung is recovering from a hamstring injury and was taking part in a separate fitness work with one of the coaches, while Owen Hargreaves who sustained a hamstring injury six minutes into his most recent comeback in November was training with the reserves.

“The key is to have everyone available,” Ferguson said. “We’re in three competitions. Ji-Sung Park is making good progress – we’ll hopefully have him back for Saturday [against Bolton].

“Owen Hargreaves started training. You never know, we may have him available for the end of the season. The important thing is to have players for the run-in. If you do that then it increases our chances [of success].”

Dean Richards Will No Longer Play Soccer

02 March, 11:59, by admin

February 26, 2011 former-Tottenham defender Dean Richards passed away at the age of 36 due to a serious illness. A statement on the Bradford City website read “The football club are truly devastated to hear of the death of former Bradford City fans’ favourite Dean Richards.” It speaks volumes for Richards that fans from Chelsea, Fulham and even Arsenal left tributes for the defender on various websites.

Richards started his career Bradford City as a young child, then moved to Wolves in 1995 and four years later moved to Southampton. After his years at Southampton he made a large move and went to Tottenham to play soccer. His career ended prematurely since he was forced to retire at the age of 30 after he suffered from headaches and dizzy spells. Richards returned home to Bradford in 2007 and started coaching part-time as a youth coach.

MLS Might Expand

Major League Soccer might be expanding but it is more complex than we can imagine. New branches usually spend the first few years learning from past branches but not in MLS. Lately, MLS is opposite – the newer franchises are helping to keep the old ones positive.

Three of the four league leaders last year in home attendance were the teams that recently expanded: Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders and Philadelphia Union. The rumor is next year Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers will lead in attendance.

Manchester City Might Make It

Roberto Mancini, Manchester City manager, believes that Chelsea cannot be ruled out of the Premier League title race – despite their past.

The City are seven points above Carlo Ancelotti’s team and Mancini believes that the champions could still be in contention for the title. “Chelsea could come back again,” he stated. Mancini has always been keen to praise Chelsea, talking them up during the first half of the season as favorites. But their recent dip has seen the two Manchester sides pull away at the top of the Premier League.

Ancelotti’s team are seven points adrift of Manchester United and Manchester City – having played one more game than United and one less than City.
